If you take the same medication on a regular basis, it is likely that this has been added to your list of repeat medication. One of our clinicians will normally authorise a specific number of monthly issues of your repeat medication. Normally, we will authorise enough issues for a period of 12 months, although there are exceptions.
Once the clinician has authorised your medication, you will be able to request each monthly issue from our administration team. You can do this in one of the following ways:
- In person/post – clearly mark the items required on your repeat slip and forward it to the surgery.
- By telephone - Gosforth Valley prescriptions line (01246 417555), Moss Valley prescriptions line (01246 439101 option 1) open to take your repeat prescription requests 24/7.
- Online – via the link at the top of this page; If you are new to the online system you need to contact reception to register and obtain the Practice access code and registration information.
If you have nominated a pharmacy for electronic prescribing, there is no need to pick up your prescription from the practice. Instead, it will be sent electronically to your nominated pharmacy, but please allow 2 working days for us to process your request.
If your condition is stable and changes to your medication or dose are unlikely, you may elect to have the full number of issues sent automatically to your nominated pharmacy. This is called "repeat dispensing." In these circumstances, you do not need to order your medication monthly from the practice as it will be available for collection directly from your nominated pharmacy.
Once the maximum number of authorised issues has been reached, the practice will need to undertake a medication review. For most medication, this will take place every 12 months and will be completed by the practice pharmacist. In many cases, it is not necessary for you to attend an appointment for a medication review. Please request your medication in the normal way; we will contact you if we need you to come in for an appointment.
We carry out medication reviews to ensure that your medication remains appropriate and is not causing unwanted or unsafe side effects. We may therefore ask some patients to attend for a face to face review or to attend for a blood test or other tests. If you are asked to attend for a review, please ensure that you make an appointment as soon as possible.
Please allow two full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.
