At The Valleys Medical Partnership, we are proud to be a research-active practice.
Participating in clinical research and disease surveillance helps to develop new treatments and medicines for the future. There are different types of research that patients can take part in.
If we invite you to take part in a study, please consider doing so.
- A recent survey found that most participants report a positive experience after taking part in research studies. Read more here: Participant in research experience survey | NIHR

Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD)
This practice contributes to the Clinical Practice Research Datalink. CPRD is a UK-based research service that collects anonymised patient data from general practitioner (GP) practices. The data is used to support public health and clinical studies. Primary care data are linked to a range of other health related data to provide a longitudinal, representative UK population health dataset. The data encompasses 60 million patients, including 18 million currently registered patients. More information about the CPRD can be found here: Public | CPRD

Research & Surveillance Centre (RCGP)
As a practice, we contribute to Disease Surveillance, which is coordinated by the Oxford-Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) Research and Surveillance Centre (RSC). They use data from health records to monitor infections and diseases in the community. Data collection is to support public health. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) use this information to detect disease outbreaks and pandemics, and evaluate vaccine effectiveness, as well as carry out ethically approved research.
The data collected is pseudonymised, meaning that information that identifies an individual is removed and replaced with a code number. This means it is not possible to identify an individual after it has been pseudonymised. This does not affect patients care or privacy.
If you wish for your information not to be used, please speak to the practice, or follow the link: https://www.nhs.uk/your-nhs-data-matters/manage-your-choice

ATTEND Study
Mindfulness for Adolescents and Carers (MAC) is a Mindfulness-based Cognitive-Therapy teaching young people skills to help them recognise and respond to early warning signs of depression or anxiety.
They are wanting to see if MAC can support 15–18-year-olds who have recurrent depression or anxiety to recover and stay well for longer.
Parents/carers are also encouraged to join, to see if taking part in MAC can be helpful for parents’/carer’s own mental health as well as supporting their child’s

HPOS Study
The HPOS Study is calling for adults with psoriasis, who are not already diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis.
This research study aims to determine which patients with psoriasis are more likely to develop psoriatic arthritis and to try and prevent it before it occurs.

Primary Care & Hearing Loss Study
Researchers at the University of Nottingham have launched a study to examine the experiences of adults living with hearing loss in primary care services. The results will inform the development of new strategies to improve primary care services for people living with hearing loss.
They are looking for people aged 18+ years of age to take part in an online survey, including:
- People who work in healthcare (e.g., clinicians, practice managers, receptionists).
- People who work in research/academia, social care, and charities
- People living with hearing loss (including mild hearing loss).
- People living with other hearing conditions (e.g., vestibular disorders, tinnitus).
- Supporters of people living with hearing loss (e.g., family members, Deaf awareness campaigners).
You can learn more and access the survey via this link: https://app.onlinesurveys.jisc.ac.uk/s/nottingham/primary-care-survey

GLAD Study
The NIHR BioResource is supporting The Glad Study. This study is aiming to explore genetic and environmental risk factors int hose who have experienced depression and/or anxiety in comparison with data from those who have never experienced a mental health disorder.
Their goal is to understand why some people experience mental health disorders whilst others do not.
More information on this study can be found at: About the Study | GLAD Study
